Interpret data from analyses of corporate financial statements vis-à-vis assets and liabilities, financial covenants, bank credit agreements, bond indentures, and capital structure. Coalesce insights from diverse data sources, including results of corporate research, and reconcile divergent inputs to formulate investment recommendations. Identify trading and investment opportunities, develop total return forecasts, and submit to portfolio managers investment strategy recommendations that include suggestions regarding timing, duration, curve-positioning, and sizing of securities purchases and divestitures. Independently make investment decisions and manage parts of selected bond portfolios. Consult credit rating agencies to monitor the current and past credit quality of companies offering high-yield corporate bonds, including corporations with highly-leveraged capital structures. Apply financial analysis software (FactSet, Capital IQ, Bloomberg) and use advanced applications of Excel, to create and test credit models and perform scenario analyses to quantify downside impact on bond prices under stressed scenarios. Use software query language to access securities-specific databases, including Barclays POINT and Barclays Live, to mine historical bond performance data. Conduct statistical analyses on mined data, and uncover correlation and causality relationships with macroeconomic, capital market, and industry-specific variables, to identify historical patterns in bond price movements. Examine developments in derivative prices, including credit default swaps, to assess probabilities of particular companies’ defaulting on loans or going into bankruptcy, and to predict resulting implications for bonds. Examine effects of corporate milieu, including government regulations and economic and industrial cyclicality, on the performance of products or services of companies offering bonds. Monitor high-yield bond indices as benchmarking standards.
