American pilots ratify new labor contract

The Allied Pilots Association, the union representing pilots of American Airlines, said today that members voted to ratify the tentative labor agreement reached between the company and the union.

According to information posted on the union’s website, the vote was 5,489 for and 1,951 against. More than 96% of the union’s members participated in the election, the APA said.

APA president Keith Wilson told members in the online message, “APA will now turn its focus to helping to ensure that full consideration is given to strategic alternatives before American Airlines’ restructuring concludes. The APA leadership continues to support a merger with US Airways as the best path to a stronger, more competitive American Airlines that will in turn enhance our pilots’ long-term career prospects.” – Alan Zimmerman
